SHINJI
The childhood of shinji is quite sad. During he is 4 years old, his mother died. Gendo left him alone and takes Shinji to his brother home. So that Shinji grows in his aunt and uncle's house without parents' caring. In the Evangelion's comics, there are more stories about Shinji's childhood: One time (during about 11 years old), he took a old bicycle form a garbage dump to home. However, a police thinks that his bicycle is stolen form another people, and takes him to police station. Nobody believe him even his aunt, but he does not care so much about people believe him or not. In his mind, he only have a wish -- his parents can see him (Gendo does not see him even he caught by police).

ASUKA
Her childhood is similar to Shinji. Her father died during she is very small. Her mother (Kyoko Zeppelin, 1974-2005) went crazy because of doing a research, and suicided in hospital . Asuka never cry in front of people, even her mom died during she is 4 years old. When she is small she doesn't like to play doll, she destroied the doll because she wants to grow up (does not want to be a child). However, her heart is very fragile. She acts arrogant to cover her broken heart.

REI
Her childhood is very short, only four years. During 2005, Gendo brings Rei-1 to Nerv (fews days after the main computer system, MAGI, of Nerv was just created). Rei-1 goes around the headquater of Nerv and losses her way. Then she meets Nagoa Akagi (mother of Rituko). Nagoa trying to help Rei-1 to find the way out, but Rei-1 refused and said Nagoa is a old bastard (Rei-1 calls Nagoa bastard is imitated from Gendo). At last, Nagoa gets angry and killed Rei-1 (she suicided after Rei-1 died).
After Rei-1 died, the Rei-2 was created by the clone of Yui Ikari. There are totally three Reis in the cartoon. After Rei-2 died (died with 16th Angel), Rei-3 then appears in the hospital (with bandages and eyepatch on). When Rei-3 go back to her house, she holds up the glass of Gendo and dropped down few tears: "This is tear? I have never seen it, but it looks familiar to me. Am I crying? Why did I cry?" .

MISATO
Her childhood is similar to everyone on top. During the Second Impact, she and her father were researching (I don't sure what they are doing) in South Pole. Only she was survived during Second Impact. In the next few years (after 2nd Impact), she has not talk or say any thing. So that, people always said she talks so much now is to compensate the time that she did not talk.

It is seem to be nobody have a good childhood in Evangelion !!
